{"id":155459,"date":"2025-12-11T15:33:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T20:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/selasite.azurewebsites.net\/?p=155459"},"modified":"2026-01-19T04:12:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T08:12:28","slug":"ambassador-lesly-david-reiterates-that-regional-integration-is-a-historical-and-strategic-necessity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rmtsolutions.net\/sela\/en\/ambassador-lesly-david-reiterates-that-regional-integration-is-a-historical-and-strategic-necessity\/","title":{"rendered":"Ambassador Lesly David reiterates that regional integration is a historical and strategic necessity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<strong> Permanent Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), Ambassador Lesly David,<\/strong> confirmed at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rmtsolutions.net\/sela\/en\/agenda\/51-latin-american-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">51st Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council<\/a><\/strong> that regional integration \u00abis not an option, but a historical and strategic necessity.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his opening speech at the ministerial meeting, held on Thursday, 11 December, at <strong>SELA <\/strong>headquarters in Caracas, the <strong>Permanent Secretary <\/strong>pointed out that integration is the region&#8217;s \u00abmost powerful tool\u00bb for \u00abcombating global uncertainty.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abIt is not just about economics, but about building collective unity even from our differences. Our region, with its more than 660 million inhabitants, demands a clear vision and coordinated action from us,\u00bb he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed out that, despite the wealth of the Latin American and Caribbean region, it remains \u00abthe most unequal region on the planet.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"155290\" src=\"\/sela\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-11-at-4.29.21-PM-_1_-819x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-155290\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abMillions of our citizens still live in poverty, and extreme poverty remains at worrying levels, affecting women, young people and vulnerable communities in particular,\u00bb Ambassador David emphasised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the presence of representatives from Member States, Ambassador Lesly David highlighted that the <strong>Work Programme <\/strong>presented by the Permanent Secretariat is \u00aba concrete response to these challenges, a roadmap that transforms good intentions into measurable actions.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this regard, he reaffirmed the \u00absolemn commitment\u00bb of SELA&#8217;s Permanent Secretariat to conduct each of the activities proposed in the three established areas of work, comprising <strong>Economic Recovery, Social Development, and Digitalisation and Infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>Economic Recovery Area, <\/strong>the Secretary highlighted that <strong>SELA<\/strong> is committed to \u00abmaking decisive progress\u00bb in Trade Facilitation, in addition to convening the \u00abIII Forum on investment cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean\u00bb to attract the resources and technologies that will boost productive economies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>Social Development Area,<\/strong> he noted that <strong>SELA<\/strong> is committed to prioritising the Poverty Eradication project, articulating social policies that use cooperation as a \u201clever for development\u201d as well as promoting virtual workshops on education strategies for the integration of migrant women and girls, which seek to ensure that \u00abmigration is not a source of exclusion, but an opportunity for development with a gender approach.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also highlighted the commitment, through the <strong>Digitalisation and Infrastructure Area,<\/strong> to promote digital transformation and develop a sustainable and \u2018smarter\u2019 infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean. \u00abSELA recognises that modern infrastructure is the indispensable platform for the digital economy and that the synergy between both axes is key to development,\u00bb he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abSELA reaffirms itself as a genuine space for addressing and developing public policy proposals at the service of our region,\u00bb he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Permanent Secretary assured that the Organisation \u00abwill work tirelessly, with transparency and vision,\u00bb so that the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rmtsolutions.net\/sela\/en\/publicaciones\/work-programme-51st-regular-meeting-of-the-latin-american-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Work Programme for 2026-2029<\/a><\/strong> translates into \u00abgreater well-being for every man, woman and child in our beloved region.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rmtsolutions.net\/sela\/en\/latin-american-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Latin American Council<\/a><\/strong> is SELA&#8217;s highest authority and is composed of one representative from each Member State.
